Prospective Members

Thank you for your interest in the Virginia Sports Club. We are a safe, law-abiding Club with ethical members passionate about hunting and fishing. In fact, in our 60+ year history, we’ve never had a single hunting injury or fatality. This is a safety record we are very proud of and work very hard to maintain.

Our membership consists of current/retired law enforcement, current/separated/retired military, government employees, farmers, tradesmen, and professionals. Our Club has 12 tracts of leased property with over 6,600 acres total, and we are constantly looking for additional leasing opportunities. Our properties are located in Orange, Fluvanna, Culpeper, Fauquier, and Buckingham Counties. Of our 12 tracts, we have one Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) tract and one tract with antler restrictions. We also have three properties that participate in the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources Deer Management Assistance Program. Finally, we have one property in which the tract steward runs dogs on certain days over the course of general rifle season, specifically for the benefit of our members. So, the Virginia Sports Club has a variety of hunting programs/opportunities for all its members.

Our current membership fee is $450 per year and a one-time initiation fee of $400 for new members. During the summer, members will participate in one workday per year on a tract of their choice. We also have an annual raffle in which all members participate. Club members have the option of purchasing an annual guest pass, and day passes (only when an annual guest pass is purchased).

We carry around 150 members and accept about 20 new members through attrition in April of each year. We pride ourselves in ensuring each member has a quality hunting experience. Currently, we are accepting applications and placing them on our waiting list in anticipation of any vacancies for the 2023-2024 hunting season and subsequent hunting seasons. We encourage you to complete the application and power of attorney (POA) forms on this site, get the POA notarized, scan them both, and email them to vicepresident@virginiasportsclub.org. Hold on to the original POA. When you are selected, you will attend VSC’s New Member Orientation (NMO) and will bring the original POA with you, along with your annual membership dues and initiation fee. There is no cost to be placed on the waiting list.

The Virginia Sports Club meets on the third Thursday in January, April, September, and October, and on the Second Thursday in December. We always meet at Peppers Restaurant, 791 Madison Road, Culpeper, VA 22701. We highly encourage you to join us and speak with the members, tract stewards, and executive committee officers in attendance. Our meeting time normally begins at 7:30 pm; however, the restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat dinner buffet for around $20, so you are welcome to arrive early and join us for dinner. With your application on file, we will keep you abreast of Club happenings in the interim via email.

Once again, on behalf of the Executive Committee, thank you for your interest in the Virginia Sports Club. We look forward to receiving your application and meeting you in-person at an upcoming General Membership Meeting.

Best Regards,

John Eckenrode
Vice President, Virginia Sports Club
